Italian Maiolica Painted Planter Pot

About the Item

Italian Maiolica painted planter pot. This is a beautifully hand-painted short stamnos-shaped Maiolica pot. Maiolica is tin-glazed pottery from Italy that has been decorated over a white background. The most defining part of the piece is the lion heads that are located on the ends of both handles. However, much like other Maiolica pieces. The lustrous hues of cobalt blue and antimony yellow are prominent throughout the pot. In combination, both these colors are used to bring forward the golden grapes and blue grape leaves. Which are often symbolic of youthfulness, vitality, abundance, and fertility.
