Antique Konoike Yokohama Meiji Period Solid Silver Chrysanthemum Motif Bowl

About the Item

This exceptional Japanese Meiji period solid silver bowl was made by the workshop of Konoike of Yokohama. The heavily decorated double walled bowl features all-over chased and embossed decoration in the form of chrysanthemum blossoms on a hand-hammered ground. The interior of the bowl is smooth and brightly polished while the rim has a scalloped edge. The bowl rests on a round collar base. The underside of the bowl bears a mark reading 'Konoike zo' along with the 'Jun-gin' mark designating pure silver content of 950 or above. Konoike is recognized as a master and his works are held in the permanent collections of major museums including London's Victoria and Albert. This beautifully crafted and elegant object would be a wonderful addition to a grouping of Konoike pieces, or to fine Meiji period silver by other makers.
