David Linley London Marquetry Watch and Cufflink Jewelry Box with Key

About the Item

This is a gorgeous wood marquetry watch and cufflink jewelry box with silver inlay made by London producer of fine luxury goods, Linley. This fine box would make an excellent gift for yourself or a special person in your life. The incised LINLEY mark adorns the rear interior ledge of the box. The box is lined in black velvet and contains a removable tray with two compartments and cufflink (or ring holder) in the center. As expected with Linley items, construction is impeccable and elegant. Key included. Condition is good to excellent with only the tiniest of a dent to the front edge of the box as shown in the detail images. When LINLEY officially opened its doors in 1985, it pushed back the boundaries of bespoke craftsmanship and forged a reputation for uniting the worlds finest designers with peerless master craftsmen, dedicated to producing masterpieces and intergenerational heirlooms, with meticulous attention to detail, distinction and flair. David Linley (British) founded LINLEY in 1985, choosing to follow his passion of cabinet-making in favor of more traditional career paths. Linley’s creative ability was nurtured by his parents, Princess Margaret and Antony Armstrong-Jones, First Earl of Snowdon, from an early age as they encouraged his passion for making things. His father, an eminent photographer, was particularly influential, having himself trained as an architect and designed, among other things, the aviary at the London Zoo. Linley attended Bedales School, an alternative school, which emphasized arts and crafts, where he developed an avid interest in wood-working, honing his professional skills at a specially designated School for Craftsmen in Wood he attended subsequently. Linley has written three books, and has lectured around the world at prestigious venues, such as the Victoria and Albert Museum and The Metropolitan Museum of Art. In 2006, Linley took up the position of chairman of Christie’s UK, in addition to his role as chairman of LINLEY. Linley currently lives and works in London. - Artnet
