An exceptional, fine and impressive pair of versatile antique Victorian English sterling silver three-light candelabra; an addition to our ornamental silverware collection
These exceptional antique Victorian sterling silver candelabra have a classical square form to a knopped column onto a stepped swept square foot, in the classic English 18th century style.
Each impressive three light candelabrum retains the original hallmarked detachable push fit scrolling arms embellished with reed decoration.
The branches (labra) support two cylindrical capitals, each encompassed with bands of applied gadroon decoration.
The capitals are fitted with the original hallmarked push fit square sconces, embellished with further gadroon decorated borders to the rims.
Each capital of these Victorian candelabra centrepieces surmounts an impressive square drip pan, featuring identical ornamentation to that of the sconces.
Each silver candelabrum is fitted with a third detachable central elevated capital.
These versatile Victorian candelabra can be used as candlesticks once the arms are detached, alternatively, the labra may be conjoined to form a five-light candelabrum.
The panelled waisted column of each candlestick is encompassed with gadroon decoration to the knops.
The plain square swept foot incorporates a plain sunken well, and is embellished with gadroon decoration to a plain collet style rim.
Both Victorian silver candelabra have weighted bases, as to be expected, and are fitted with the original baize to the underside.
Condition
These exceptional examples of Victorian decor are an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition.
The ornamentation is all very sharp.
Full hallmarks struck to the rim of each base, boss and sconce sleeve, in addition to part hallmarks to the central sconce are all very clear; the hallmarks are struck deeply due to the exceptional gauge of silver.
Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of each Victorian house ornament.
