Thomas Pringle Mahogany Case 8-Day Tall Clock, Dalkeith, Scotland, circa 1830’s

About the Item

A fine example of an 8-day tall clock in mahogany case made by Thomas Pringle, Scottish clockmaker, active 1830-1836. This beautiful tall case clock features a swan’s neck split pediment with foliate carved decoration, gilt foliate rosettes, and a center eagle finial on the hood, with an arched glass door, opening to an arched metal hand painted Roman numeral dial which features bird arch decoration, as well as foliate decorated spandrels, and “T. Pringle, Dalkeith” across the face. The front hood corners feature full reeded columns with brass capitals and the shaped waist door features beautiful figured mahogany veneer, with family provenance and service history on the inside, opening to a decorated pendulum bob and two lead weights, supported by a molded base with bracket feet. The clock has a brass eight-day movement and is in good working order, with minor surface imperfections, shrinkage cracks, an old tape strip across the hood top, and other minor wear commensurate with age and use.
