Fine French Tortoiseshell Boulle Mantel Clock by Brocot & Delettrez, Paris French Boulle clock housed in a fine quality tortoiseshell drumhead case with brass inlaid decoration to all sides, raised stepped plinth and resting on bun feet. The inside of the case and back door with conforming Boulle work. Bevelled glass front viewing aperture. Brass bezel opening to the enamel dial with Roman numerals and original ‘blued’ steel hands signed A.Brocot & Delettrez, Paris. Eight day French movement with anchor escapement by A.Brocot & Delettrez, Paris striking the hours and halves on a silvered bell with temperature compensated pendulum. The backplate also signed by the maker and numbered 3709. C.1860 Jean-Baptiste Delettrez was a renowned 19th century clockmaker and is recorded in Tardy’s’Dictionnaire Des Horogers Francais’ as working originally in Paris from Rue De Berry Au Marais in 1850 then moving to Rue Charlot in 1890 Achille Brocot son of the respected clockmakerLouis Gabrial Brocot established Brocot & Delettrez in Paris in 1851. Their clock movements are considered the most effective made in the 19th century. Their speciality was a range of clocks based on the innovations of Brocot Pere and other son Antoire but greatly of Anchillie’s advanced original design including a temperature compensated pendulum.

    Repaired: some boulle work restored. Wear consistent with age and use. good condition, the clock movement has been completely stripped down and overhauled and is in full working order. Some small amount of restoration to Boulle work.
