French 19th Century Neo-Classical Style Porcelain and Ormolu Clock
About the Item
A most attractive French 19th century neo-classical st. porcelain and ormolu clock. The clock is raised by fine scrolled ormolu feet below the beautiful deep forest green porcelain base. The base is centered by a lovely and most charming hand painted scene of a Napoleon and Josephine. Napoleon is standing wearing his military attire and holding his bicorne under his arm. Josephine is dressed in a gown seated on a park bench. The scene is signed by the artist PETIT and is centered by fine gilt accented musical instruments at each side. Above is the striking ormolu clock face with a lovely central design and Roman numerals framed within a most decorative entrelacs et les rosaces ormolu band. The original beveled glass is framed within a finely chased ormolu band with two charming butterflies below. Above is a striking ormolu statue of a winged angel draped in a flowing garment sitting with the eternal flame at his side and holding a bow in his left hand. His feet hang over the side and are resting on a charming bench while his hand extends toward a beautiful cornucopia atop of a fine column. All original gilt throughout and original French movement retailed by Hamann & Koch, New York.
