Creamy White 3-Part Totem, Rectangular Cup on Top, Hand Built Ceramic Sculpture
About the Item
This luscious, creamy, almost waxy off-white surface is the combination of 2 glazes. One in a series of Modern TOTEMS, there are 3 parts, including a rectangular cup form on top. The stacked parts are made separately then combined, and the always different feet are attached before the first firing. Several firings and 2 glazes later I achieved this surface. It still shows the hand markings and scraping on the white clay beneath. Completely hand built.
A very strong presence when placed alone. A dynamic conversation is created when paired with one or 2 other pieces (see last photo). Signed with Artist's Signature Chop underneath.

Helena Starcevic Ceramics produces work that straddles the line between fine and decorative art. Each piece is one of a kind, hand-built entirely by the artist in her New York studio. Taking inspiration from the natural world, Ms. Starcevic's work includes references to the stark beauty of the desert, prehistoric cave paintings, and the human form (within and without). Everything is filtered through Ms. Starcevic’s own singular aesthetic, at once quiet yet strong, meditative, and beautiful. Pieces are made in different clays and finishes, and at different scales. Groupings are available. Helena Starcevic’s ceramic pieces are held in private collections across the US and Europe. She has held numerous residencies including one at the Museum of Art and Design in New York City.
