Matte Brown Ceramic TOTEM w/ Gold Arc'd Crown on Soft Cube & Oval Forms
About the Item
One in a new series of Modern TOTEMS consisting of soft round or rectangular forms on small conical feet. The shapes begin as a solid piece. They are then hollowed out, stacked and the feet attached. The top of this one is a large curved shape, like a wreath, horn, or crown. After the parts are attached, a brown/black clay slip was painted on and the piece fired twice. The slip creates a matte surface with tiny silver specks and dark brown undertones, catching light and creating depth. For the second firing, a bronze-tone gold glaze was applied to the top piece.
Strong and majestic on its own, wonderful as an installation with several other sculptures. See it in the photos below with its sister piece: Matte Brown Ceramic TOTEM w/ Gold Crown. Reference #LU4570123338092
Completely hand built by artist Helena Starcevic. Because of the hand built nature and the ceramic process, each one is unique, one of a kind.

Helena Starcevic Ceramics
Helena Starcevic Ceramics produces work that straddles the line between fine and decorative art. Each piece is one of a kind, hand-built entirely by the artist in her New York studio. Taking inspiration from the natural world, Ms. Starcevic's work includes references to the stark beauty of the desert, prehistoric cave paintings, and the human form (within and without). Everything is filtered through Ms. Starcevic’s own singular aesthetic, at once quiet yet strong, meditative, and beautiful. Pieces are made in different clays and finishes, and at different scales. Groupings are available. Helena Starcevic’s ceramic pieces are held in private collections across the US and Europe. She has held numerous residencies including one at the Museum of Art and Design in New York City.
