Black Glaze Spanish Manises Ceramic Horse Head 1980s

About the Item

Stunning black glaze ceramic head horse sculpture hand produced in the Cases workshop in the Manises town of Valencia, Spain. Measurements: Height 23cm/ 9in Width 17cm/ 6.7in Weight 825gr. Manises ceramics are highly prestigious in Spain and all along Europe. Manises is a small town next to Valencia, famous for its hand produced ceramics since the high Middle Ages. The Cases family started their work shops back in the early 1950s during the post war years of the Spanish Civil War and WW2. Enrique Cases has been one of the most important Valencian ceramists in history. He grow up in the post war years and went to work very young in the ceramics workshops of Manises, Valencia, opening later and along the years several ceramics work shops and factories with his father and brothers. He studied art and drawing while he was skillfully learning the processes of developing important ceramic collections. Back in the 1960s he travelled throughout Europe and spent some time in France and Italy, bringing to Manises the latest glazing style trends and technics. He created and developed outstanding modern collections of ceramics, placing the Manises town of Valencia in the map of important, creative, high quality ceramic production centers of Europe.
