French Mid 19th Century Animalier Bronze "Lapin Assis" by Antoine L Barye

Wonderful mid 19th Century French animalier bronze study of a seated rabbit in a timid position. The surface has a rich green and brown variegated patina and excellent hand chased detail, signed Barye and inscribed F Barbedienne ADDITIONAL INFORMATION Height: 4.5 cm Width: 6 cm Depth: 3 cm Condition: Excellent Original Condition Circa: 1860 Materials: Bronze Book Ref Animals in Bronze by Christopher Payne Page no. 367 Foundry: Ferdinand Barbedienne, France SKU: 9012 Antoine L Barye ~ French, 1796 to 1875, born in Paris he turned to sculpture in 1817 after his discharge from the army and worked in the studios of Bosio and Gros. In1819 he took part in the competition of the École des Beaux Arts where he was runner up. Barye exhibited at the salon from 1827 onwards. In a career spanning half a century he had a prodigious output of bronzes imbued with realism and naturalism, and a meticulous attention to anatomical detail.
