Important Bronze "Workhorse" by Raymond de Meester

Patinated bronze representing a workhorse in full effort signed on the terrace "Raymond de Meester" (Raymond de Meester de Betzenbroeck 1904-1995) Baron Raymond de Meester de Betzenbroeck: Born in Mechelen on December 1, 1904 and died on November 30, 1995 in Woluwe-Saint-Lambert, is a Belgian sculptor. Self-taught animal sculptor, he is considered a sculptor of "movement and feelings". His works can be found in several Belgian museums: in Elsene (Bear playing), in Saint-Gilles (Grumpy sitting tiger), in Mechelen (Ostrich of the Somali islands), in Liège (15-day-old foal licking), in the Tervuren park (Sleeping hinds). Many foreign museums also own works by the artist: Paris, Lisbon, Oslo, Buenos Aires, Riga, Tallinn, Cairo, Mexico. One of the best-known works is his roaring Lion at Malou Park in Woluwe-Saint-Lambert, facing Boulevard de la Woluwe, commissioned for the World's Fair in Brussels in 1958.
