About the Item
An antique Baga anok or elek carved wood mask sculpture, with bird and human face form elements, made by Baga people (Guinea West Africa). Features long and pointed bird beak, incised carvings, and carved human face. The sculpture sits on a newer black lacquer wood and metal pole stand. The Baga use the anok mask during harvest time and or funerals. Has lots of age and patina including worm holes, made early 1900's possibly older. The mask measures 27" tall, on the stand 32" tall.

- Condition:Wear consistent with age and use. Minor losses. The mask has worm holes and some losses, bottom tip has loose wood fibers. Missing its original altar shrine stand, the mask is displayed on a newer black lacquer wood and metal pole stand. Earlier drilled holes in the back for wall display.
