19th century French classical bronze of Euterpe by Pierre Alexander Schoenewerk A very finely sculptured and detailed large French bronze study of the female Greek goddess Euterpe who was one of the nine mousai (muses), the Goddess of music and dance. She is portrayed here sitting on an elaborate stool with her tortoiseshell liar leaning against the side. She is most beautiful and elegantly dressed in classical robes with superb detailing to her hands, face, jewellery and hair which is dressed with a garland of delicate flowers. Signed on the base Schoenewerk (Pierre Alexander Schoenewerk, French 1820 – 1885) A very fine bronze which is in very good condition with a pleasing dark brown patina, Circa 1860 Dimensions: W 43 cm (16.9") x D 20 cm (7.9") x H 39 cm (15.4").
