American 19th Century Marble Statue On It’s Original Vert De Patricia Pedestal

About the Item

A high quality and most patriotic American 19th century white Carrara marble statue on its original Vert de Patricia marble pedestal, entitled "Fourth of July". This wonderfully carved white Carrara marble statue depicts playful siblings in action and dressed in Revolutionary costumes. The young boy with a small drum below him blows a horn as he lights a miniature cannon for a Fourth of July salute. His younger sister stands beside him covering her ears for the expected report of the cannon. The children stand on a lovely base displaying leaves and flowers and children’s stick figures carved into the tree stump that the cannon rests atop. The pedestal has a protruding eagle clutching a banner in its beak that reads ‘E Pluribus Unum’ with ‘Fourth of July’ below. The letters, along with thirteen carved stars representing the thirteen colonies, are highlighted with gilt. 19th century statue of lovers in spelter on faux marble depicts two young lovers in classical raiment enjoying their vitality and company. This idyllic notion rose to incredible popularity during the Belle Epoque, culminating in a variety of sculptors depicting such scenarios in bronze. Then copies would be made of the original bronzes which were cast in spelter and given a hand-applied finish to mimic the look of bronze. Note the detail in the garments, the bough of flowers, even the love birds on the ground at their feet! The Classic poses were derived from the French fascination with ancient Greek and Roman statuary...
