Charles Raphaël Peyre (French 1874-1949) A French Art Nouveau Gilt-Bronze Figure of a Maiden Cast by Louchet, circa 1900 Modeled in a standing pose with her hands clasped closed to her cheek, inscribed Peyre and stamped with the foundry seal. Height: 13 inches. Diameter: 4.5 Inches Estate of Steven and Anne Ausnit, Doyle New York. Condition: Appears to be very good to excellent condition; typical wear and rubbing to the gilding. Raphaël Charles Peyre (born May 31, 1872 in Paris, in the 3rd arrondissement of Paris, and died January 3, 1949, in the 12th arrondissement of Paris1) was a French sculptor. Raphaël Charles Peyre was a pupil of Alexandre Falguière, Maurice Bouval Théophile Barrau and Antonin Mercié. His favorite subjects were mainly allegorical and symbolic subjects. He exhibited his work for the first time in 1893 at the Paris Salon. In 1894, he received an honorable mention at the Salon des artistes of the Society of French Artists, of which he became a member in 1900 and henceforth exhibited there regularly. In 1902 he won a third class medal, then in 1903 a second class medal. In 1909, he exhibited his work Harmonies.
