About the Item
Franz Xavier Bergman Austrian (1861-1936) Bronze, signed "Nam Greb" and "B" on a vase. Height: 13½ inches Width: 7¾ inches Rare large version of "Windy Day", an erotic bronze figure of a young dancer, with fine cold-painted decoration and excellent detail throughout the figure. Her skirt rises to show her naked body. Signed "Nam Greb" and "B" on a vase. Franz Xavier Bergman was the son of Franz Bergman (1830-1894), who founded the Bergman Foundry in the 1860s. After the death of his father, Bergman continued the business by developing cold-painted bronze groups, which included animals , oriental and erotic scenes. Bergman is possibly the most famous of the Viennese cold painted bronze artists and, with his great attention to detail and use of colour, remains one of the most popular.
