Meissen Porcelain Figurine Busts of a Man & Woman by Peter Strang

About the Item

A fine pair of miniature Meissen porcelain busts. By Peter Strang. In the form of a man and woman in casual clothing. The man wears an argyle sweater and is smoking a pipe, and the woman is in a purple dress with a blue brooch. Each bust rests atop a plinth of white porcelain. In Strang's cubist style. Strang was born in Dresden in 1935 and received a degree in Sculpture from the Academy of Fine Arts in Dresden in 1960. Peter was a founding member of the Meissen 1960 artists' collective and would go onto model hundreds of different pieces for Meissen over the years. Simply a wonderful pair of miniature busts from one of Meissen's masters! Date: 20th Century Overall Condition: They are in overall fair, as-pictured, used estate condition with no repairs. Condition Details: The male figure lacks the stem of his pipe, and the female figure has losses to the tip of her hair. Otherwise, there are some fine & light surface scratches and other signs of expected light wear consistent with age. Maker: Meissen Marks: Marked to the base with a blue underglaze crossed swords Meissen maker's mark. Measurements: Height: ca. 2 3/4 in. Width: ca. 7/8 in. Depth: ca. 5/8 in.
