Biography
Giò Pomodoro: Brother of the famous sculptor Arnaldo, one of the greatest of the twentieth century, Giorgio, aka Giò Pomodoro, carved out a leading role among the abstractionists of the last century with his production.
Born in Orciano di Pesaro, in the Marche region, and died in Milan in December 2002, he learned the goldsmith's art in Pesaro and from 1955 began to exhibit at well-known galleries in Milan, Venice and Rome. Having approached the Continuity group, he broke away from it, arriving at the "cycle of matter, void and geometry", in which he opted for a plastic development of matter.
Invited to exhibit three times at the Venice Biennale, once at the international gallery in Paris and once at the Marlborough and Martha Jackson galleries in New York, in 1978 he designed the sets for Verdi's "La Forza del Destino", on show at the Verona Arena .
Among the motifs of his public works in stone and bronze, inspired by the idea of social enjoyment of the work of art, the sun is the most recurrent.
