About the Item
This wonderful piece is crafted from silvered bronze and is a fine demonstration of the Art Nouveau style. The shield is circular in form and is set with twin handles to either side modelled in high relief as sprays of leaves laden with bunches of berries. The shield is cast with an image of a nymph and a satyr amidst low-relief flora. The figures are deeply cast and superbly finished, evincing great movement and dynamism.
