Classical style cut glass & silver wine jug
About the Item
Elegant, neoclassical style engraved glass antique wine jug with silver handle and mounts. Made during the latter part of the Edwardian era, the jug's glass body is hand blow and beautifully hand engraved in floral swag patterns, typical motifs of the neoclassical style. The silver mounts are decorated with crisp and precise bead pattern borders.
Neoclassicism was born in Rome in the mid-18th century before spreading throughout Europe. It is the name given to Western movements in the arts and architecture that draw inspiration from the classical art and culture of Ancient Greece or Rome.
