Austrian Iridescent Glass Loetz att. Vase w/ Silver Overlay by La Pierre c. 1900
About the Item
AUSTRIAN IRIDESCENT GOLD, BLUE AND GREEN GLASS VASE WITH SILVER OVERLAY
"L / Sterling" trademark for La Pierre; circa 1900; unsigned
Item # 103GOL11A
An incredibly vibrant Austrian iridescent glass vase, probably executed by Loetz in light of the very fine quality of glass and as they collaborated extensively with the La Pierre silver workshop. It exhibits an exaggerated bulbous body with a tapered neck and flared rim finished in silver, the body with an Art Nouveau silver overlay of berries and foliage on a vine continuing around in a circular presentation. The glass remains in pristine condition with no noted flaws to the fine gold, green, blue and magenta iridescence; beneath the vase is a ground and polished pontil faintly marked "41" but unsigned.
Measurements: 8 3/4" H x 6" diameter
Condition Report:
Glass in exceptional condition. Tiny chip beside the ground pontil. Silver has not been polished in the shop with polish residue in crevices around most appliques, but can be brought to a high shine by hand-polish in the shop upon request. One small leaf replaced (lower leaf beside some berries), one stem glued down in two places; stem of one berries cluster with repair and later reattachment; one upper berry perhaps replaced or at least reattached.
