Ceramic Vase by Jacques Pouchain
About the Item
A zoomorphic enameled ceramic vase by the famous French artist Jacques Pouchain (1925-2015). Signature stamped under the base.
At the age of 25 Jacques Pouchain (1925 - 2015) left Paris for the South of France to devoted himself to the art. He set up a pottery studio in the little village Dieulefit. His habit of applying a white over-glaze to decoration engraved in manganese oxide revealed a modern approach to pottery comparable with practise in Great Britain and the United States during the 1950s.
In the 1950s familiar animals were recurrent themes in his work - peacocks, chickens, owls, horses, sheep and rams.
(On materials from the book Pierre Staudenmeyer "French pottery of the 1950s"; Norma Editions, Paris, 2004).
