Contemporary Vase, Arabescato Viola Marble Brown Glass Cylinder by Erik Olovsson

About the Item

Unique piece, one of a kind large drill vase. Part chaos and part control, drill vases are an exercise in improvisation. The origin of the project lies in Carrara, and the small fragments of marble found discarded by quarries in the region. I began to collect these stones. Working in the workshop with only hand and hammer, the vases bases are energetically and roughly hewn out from the collected marble. These unpredictable and chaotic forms are precision drilled to form an opening in the base. Each piece is completed by a heavy, hand blown glass vase that rests in the drilled hole. The geometry of the hand blown glass provides a sense of order and control in comparison to the spontaneity of the marble. A contrast that elevates the brut nature of the marble further.

  • Brown Dark Vase by Eguzkiñe Egaña
    Located in Geneve, CH
Brown Dark Vase by Eguzkiñe Egaña Unique Piece. Dimensions: W 14 x D 14 x H 20 cm. Materials: Terracotta, slip and enamel. Eguzkiñe Egaña Corta studied advertising and for more than 20 years has worked as a graphic designer. About 12 years ago, surrounded by a completely digital world, she felt the need to create with her hands and it is from there that she took up her drawings and illustrations and began to create with ceramics. She has completed a Master’s degree at the University of the Basque Country: “Ceramics; art and function” and combines her work as a designer and illustrator with contemporary artistic creation. She also teaches ceramics classes at the municipal school of Zarautz, a city in the Basque Country where she lives. She feels the need to explore the relationship between identity and self-knowledge. Work with the concepts; interior, exterior, return, connect, ancestral and artisanal, establishing a relationship between us and our environment, as well as between us and our ancestors, either emotionally, empathetically or through objects that somehow transport us to a hypothetical place in the past, both for its aesthetics and for the ways in which they have been created. Human beings are containers of desires, fears, expectations. Sometimes it is necessary to empty ourselves of everything that clutters the mind. On many occasions the artist works with turned containers...
