About the Item
Magnificent tall Japanese contemporary decorative porcelain vase, hand painted in blue, red, green and pink on a beautifully shaped body in pure white, a signed masterpiece by widely acclaimed master porcelain artist from the Imari-Arita region of Japan. This artist is the recipient of numerous prestigious awards for his exceptional porcelain work and his unique signature gold and platinum work on porcelain. In 2016, the British Museum added a work by this artist to its collection of contemporary Japanese porcelain in the Imari-Arita polychrome enamel tradition. The artist's profile is available upon request.
This stunning porcelain vase serves as the perfect canvas to boast two floral and bird panels divided by a stunning intricate geometric pattern in underglaze cobalt blue adorned with peonies. Pine and bamboo, which withstand wind and snow and the cold, and plums that bloom before other plants, are considered to be symbols of longevity, integrity, and innocence. Pine refers to Tokiwa pine, bamboo is noble, and plum symbolizes Seika (achievement). Used together Since ancient times, the auspicious pattern is called sho-chiku-bai or Three Friends of Winter and has been used in a wide variety of ornaments and ceramics.
Crane is an auspicious bird symbolizing victory and longevity and conveys grace and nobility.
The auspicious geometric pattern in which waves are drawn in a fan shape and stacked alternately has been used in numerous works by Nabeshima and Ko-Imari. It conveys the wish for a long-lasting peaceful life, like the waves that are constantly repeated in the vast ocean.
This exquisite large porcelain vase comes in a custom made wooden case signed by the artist.
Dimensions: H 23.5 in D 13 in
“Fired-on gold,” the artist's signature style highlights unique techniques for incorporating gold and platinum into the hand painting and multiple firing processes that yield a stunningly opulent look. The polychrome overglaze is fired at 800 degrees, followed by the application of gold and platinum that are fired at slightly lower temperature to maintain the luster of the precious metals. As a result, a single piece may undergo as many as 5-10 firings.
