Swedish Folk Art Bulb Vase with Floral Motif by Maggie Wibom for Bo Fajans, 1930

About the Item

Swedish Folk Art Bulb Vase with Purple and Mustard Yellow Glaze by Maggie Wibom for Bo Fajans, 1930 Bulb-shaped vase featuring a semi-transparent glaze adorned with minuscule purple and blue pigment particles. Adorned with charming folk art motifs in purple/burgundy red and mustard yellow, depicting leaves and horizontal bands. The purple color, in particular, exhibits a bubbly texture, adding a dynamic touch to the design. Inspired by Swedish folk art, this piece embodies the essence of arts and crafts tradition. Deeply stamped with "Sweden Bo Gefle" and painted with "Bo 4207/OB" and "MW" for Maggie Wibom. The model number "4207" signifies the design, while "OB" represents the glaze, with "O" for mustard yellow and "B" for purple. The vase is featured in the 1930s catalog from "Bobergs Fajansfabtik". See pictures. ABOUT MAGGIE WIBOM Jonny Margareta (Maggie) Wibom (1899–1961) was a Swedish ceramist and sculptor. She studied at the Higher School of Art and in Denmark, receiving a scholarship to study in Germany, France, and Denmark. Wibom worked at the Boberg faience (Bo Fajans) factory in Gävle from 1925 to 1933, creating bowls, tableware, and pots with relief motifs. She also freelanced for Gefle Porslinsfabrik in 1933–1934, crafting stoneware figures and animals. After a brief stint at S:t Eriks Lervarufabriker in Uppsala, she established her own workshop, Stockholms Keramik, in 1938. Wibom's work included portrait busts, large wall decorations with painted ceramic tiles, and exhibitions at various venues, including Svensk hemslöjd in Stockholm and the Röhsska konstslöjdmuseet in Gothenburg. She collaborated with Kjerstin Göransson-Ljungman on exhibitions and participated in national and international art and craft exhibitions. Her public works include ceramic decorations for Folkets hus in Gävle, a wall fountain at cinema Aveny in Stockholm, and ceramic reliefs for table tops and wall panels. Additionally, she created a small sculpture representing St. Staffan for Staffan's church in Gävle. Wibom's art is featured in several museums, including the National Museum, Gävleborg County Museum, Upplandsmuseet, Trondheim's Museum, and the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston.
