George II English Wine Drinking Glass Engraved Bell Bowl Hand Blown, Circa 1745
About the Item
This is a very good English, Georgian, Hand-blown, Engraved Wine drinking glass, dating to the George II Period of the mid-18th century, circa 1745.
These glasses are very collectable.
This wine glass is handblown from English lead glass. It is heavy and has a soft grey color, with age related wear to the foot rim as expected with over 250 years of use. The glass has the usual striations, inclusions and tiny bubbles you would expect to see in 18th century glass, which gives these glasses their unique charm, with no two glasses being the same.
The glass has a waisted bell bowl with a solid glass base. The bowl is nicely engraved with a pheasant in flight and a fruiting vine pattern. It sits on a thick solid stem which leads to a good wide conical foot having a rough snapped-off pontil mark to the underside.
There are no chips, cracks or any evidence of restoration.
Dimensions:
Bowl rim diameter: 3.13 inches.
Foot diameter: 3.32 inches.
Height: 6.5 inches. ( Good tall glass)
