Pewter Tankard Designed by Archibald Knox for Liberty Tudric No. 053, circa 1902

About the Item

This is a good Pewter Tankard, designed by Archibald Knox, for Liberty & Co and marked Tudric with stamped Number 053, dating to the early 20th century, circa 1902. The tankard is made of Pewter and has a polished and tapered hammered body with a scrolling loop handle having a thumb rest and sits on a shaped foot. The body has three hammered stylised flowers, all in the Art Nouveau style of the day. It is fully and clearly stamped to the base with; "TUDRIC" having an "0" over it and 053 below.

    This is a good late 19th century pewter sauce or gravy boat with good reeded detail made by Walker & Hall of Sheffield, England with a full set of stamped marks to the base for the period. This sauce boat has a lovely rounded body with a single pouring lip, a double "C" cast loop handle and sits on an oval pedestal foot having reeded detail to the base rim. This piece has a lovely mellow patinated colouring only seen on old pewter. Various Walker & Hall manufacturers markings are stamped on the base of the foot with punched or impressed numbers "49" and "1021" also present.
