Richard Hutten
Dutch designer Richard Hutten has reshaped concepts and redefined modern forms through imaginative furniture. He creates pieces from a place of playful innovation, including desk accessories, side chairs and other whimsical work.
Hutten was born in Rotterdam in 1967. He graduated from the Design Academy Eindhoven in 1991. Soon after, he became part of a design movement that sparked the Droog furniture company in the Netherlands. By 1993, he was showing his work in solo exhibitions. From there, the demand for his creations increased, with notable and influential clients including the Lloyd Hotel Amsterdam, I+I Milano and Princess Beatrix of the Dutch royal house.
Celebrated furniture pieces like his Cloud Chair bring a splash of the surreal to luxurious comfort and embody the essence of his creative philosophy. His work has been featured in many well-known publications, such as the New York Times, ELLE Decoration, Dezeen and the Washington Post. Hutten has exhibited his work around the world, including in Tokyo, New York, Stockholm and Milan. His numerous international awards include the Red Dot Award in 2016 and the Great Indoors Award in 2007.
Hutten has been the art director of Gispen, one of the top Dutch furniture brands, since 2008. He oversees its furniture design and continues to produce new creations.

By turning the pieces, one can create sentences such as ‘I love you forever’ or funnier, weirder phrases such as ‘they play you outside’ or ‘horses kiss dark forever’. When the pieces stand alone, they reveal a hidden graphic pattern which hutten has designed based on the dazzle...Category
