Berndt Friberg, Stoneware Deep Brown Bowl, Gustavsberg, Sweden, 1957
About the Item
Berndt Friberg, Stoneware Bowl with deep brown haresfur glaze, Gustavsberg, Sweden 1957 Impressed "Friberg" "G (hand) " Incised "Ä"
The entire bowl is covered with a light indigo glaze and then a double layer of brown glaze, a standard glaze combination, but the brown glaze covers the entire bowl and most of the bowl has a brown-black appearance.
Only a small amount of blue expression can be seen around the mouth rim and high base. The glaze has a fine, dusty hairline and flows down nicely from the mouth rim to the base.
The shape is a beautiful regular circle with a ridge line under the mouth rim, a standard ridge bowl shape. It is thought to have been influenced by Tenmoku tea bowls, etc., and the glaze is simple, but it is a type of work with many good expressions.
It was produced in the 50's, and the mouth rim is thin like paper work, and the glaze hairs flow with a fine and silky look like rabbit hairs.
There is a large hole at the bottom of the prospect.
In good condition.
The vessel has been examined by an expert by UV light and visual inspection to ensure that there are no repairs and that it is not twice kiln fired.
