RAFAEL BORDALO PINHEIRO - Faience Factory of Caldas da Rainha Jug with lid, shaped like a butterfly, polychrome and raised decoration with pebbles and sand Portuguese, XIX Century, marked from the Fábrica das Caldas Da Rainha. This piece was part of the Caldas exhibition at the José Malhoa Museum in 1977, Lisbon. Exhibition organized by the José Malhoa Museum with the sponsorship of the Secretary of State for Culture and the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, with the collaboration of the Municipality of Caldas da Rainha and the Ceramics Factories. Assembly of the exhibition, cover and graphic composition of the catalog of Rafael Calado. Edition of the José Malhoa Museum. The Fábrica das Caldas da Rainha is a historic ceramics factory located in the city of Caldas da Rainha, Portugal. Also known as Fábrica Bordallo Pinheiro, it was founded in 1884 by the famous ceramist Portuguese Rafael Bordallo Pinheiro. The factory became known for the production of artistically decorated ceramic pieces and its iconic dishes, bowls, jars and sculptures. Bordallo Pinheiro's pieces are recognized for their creativity, humor and the representation of elements of nature, especially plants and animals. The Caldas da Rainha Factory and the Bordallo Pinheiro pieces are considered icons of Portuguese culture and are appreciated by collectors and ceramics enthusiasts around the world.
