19th Century Digoin French Faïence Barbotine Divided Artichoke Plate

About the Item

A scarce French barbotine Majolica glazed Artichoke plate, Digoin, circa 1890-1910. Digoin, the oldest pottery in the Loire Valley was located in the Saône-et-Loire department in the region of Bourgogne, eastern France. The divided plate shows two deeper wells, one for sauce and one for waste. Two hand painted artichoke flower heads, in green and purple are seen in the center area. A wide raised, scalloped and embossed rim shows a blue-green glaze. Reference: pg. 36, Artichauts et Asperges en Barbotine, Maryse Bottero Measures: 10 in. diameter x 1 in. height Overall crazing, light wear to the rear footing.
