California Originals Ewer Vase Mid-Century Modern

About the Item

Bright and distinct ewer vase was made by California Originals pottery in 1950s-1960s. It is decorated with intense multicolored drip glaze in red and yellow palette on black background; monochromatic black base contrasts and intensifies the colors of the glaze. California Originals was founded in the 1940s by William Bailey as Heirlooms of Tomorrow. The pottery was located in Manhattan Beach, but in the 1950s it was moved to Torrance, California and renamed California Originals. The company made an amazing assortment of edgy drip-glaze pottery, housewares, and decor pieces in bright, exciting colors. Bailey sold the company to Roman Ceramics in 1979; it closed in 1982. The vase stands 16.5" tall; it is clearly marked with the original sticker.
