About the Item
A very fine and unusual Aesthetic Movement art pottery Linthorpe cream jug and saucer stand decorated with floral designs by renowned Scottish born designer Christopher Dresser (British, 1834 – 1904) and dating from around 1880. The finely potted jug is of round bulbous shape with a twin pronged handle with snake head terminal and with an unusual shaped large raised pouring spout. The saucer stand is simple round shape with a raised fluted rim and both are hand painted in low relief with small daisy like flowers amidst leafy stems. The decoration is painted in tones of green, yellow and black against a mottled brown glazed ground with pale yellow glazes to the inner jug. Both pieces have impressed makers marks and are numbered 1038 and 1427 respectively. The saucer also has initials C.P. painted in black.
