Proskau Faience Jug in the form of a Parrot,
circa 1770.
The tromp l"oeil tin-glazed earthenware jug is in the form of a parrot with a removable head forming the cover. The parrot with a puce coloured breast with green and yellow feathers on his back and polychrome feather to the side. The handle of the jug is formed by a brown stem of a plant with the terminals as green leaves.
Reference: "Early European Porcelain & Faience as collected by Kiyi and Edward Pflueger", Catalogued by Hugo Morley-Fletcher, Volume II, Page 182, for a very similar example illustrated in colour.
Mark in manganese with letters D P.
Dimensions: 6 1/4 inches high x 4 1/2 inches x 4 1/4 inches (15.88cm high x 11.53cm x 10.80).
Condition: Tip of beak- off/on and tip of tail repaired and handle off/on.
