Leach Pottery Studio Pottery Lidded Green Glazed Pot
About the Item
A stylish and early Cornish, Leach Pottery St Ives studio pottery lidded green glazed pot dating from the early to mid 20th century. The stoneware pot of ovoid form stands on a narrow flat unglazed round base with an unglazed lower body with the wider round upper body decorated in green glazes with similar glazes applied to the inner pot but with an unglazed top rim. The pot has a fitted round lid unglazed below the edge and with a small recessed handle applied with green glazes which simply rests on the unglazed pot edge. The pot has an impressed makers mark which we have been unable to identify along with a Leach Pottery mark and has the characteristics and glazed finish similar to those produced by Bernard Leach and probably made by one of the many potters who worked at the pottery from the early years of its foundation.
Provenance: from the personal collection of a Belgium based gentleman.
In good overall condition with an old under rim chip to the cover, possibly in the firing as appears to have kiln residue. However does not detract.
