Midcentury Alice Smith California Studio Pottery Mug

A wonderful midcentury studio pottery mug from the 1940s-1950s by ceramicist, Alice Smith of California. Decorated with a series of figures carved into the sides of the mug. Finished in a matte green glaze with a glossy gray glaze at the handle, rim, and interior. Signed on the base.

Very unique and scarce work with rare use of color. Very hard to come by. One of our personal favorites along with the Chawan tea bowl. Signed on base and dated (1961) by Voulkos. This was made during one of his most magical and experimental phases. From of Private Collection, New York.
