Sandra Johnstone Salt-Fired Lidded Vessel Berkeley #2 circa 1960s
About the Item
Amazing salt-fired lidded vessel by well listed potter, Sandra Johnstone c1970s. Johnstone (1936-1991) studied with Peter Voulkos at UC Berkeley in the 1950s. In addition Johnstone also studied with Paul Soldner. She eventually went on to build her own salt kiln in the early 80s. She was known for adding a chunky wood lids with leather cords that attach to the vessel. This is a fine example of that. These look very good in a group of three.
