Antique Chinese Silver Tea Tray, circa 1910

About the Item

Lovely handmade decorative silver tea tray with an abundant border of hand-chased chrysanthemum flowers and foliage and a hand-engraved surface surrounding the central panel. This silver tray rests on four supports decorated with floral work. This tray reflects on the four primary decorative elements that appear throughout Chinese decorative arts - the chrysanthemum, prunus, orchid and bamboo. The Yixing potters began specialising in making teapots during the Ming dynasty as a direct result of the then new innovation of making tea from rolled leaves rather than the finely ground powdered tea that preceded it. In time, among Chinese tea connoisseurs, it was considered that a Yixing teapot...
