Antique Victorian Solid Silver Bowl/Basket in Neoclassical Style - 1899

About the Item

We are delighted to offer this fine antique Victorian silver bowl/basket with the marks for William Hutton & Sons, London, 1899. The basket is made from a good gauge of silver and has a good quality feel in hand despite its pierced overall design. Wonderfully embellished in neoclassical style, this elegant bowl features a pedestal base with finely pierced walls and swags of laurel leaves drooping from the central cartouche. The top edge is curved in an elegant manner, matching the overall neoclassical style with the border presenting a dotted bead pattern with four points featuring a wonderful acanthus leaf and anthemion motifs. Owing to its flared design, the basket is quite accommodating and allows for a variety of uses even in the modern day. Whether be it to hold some sweets or as a bread basket, we believe that such fine antique silverware can be a surprisingly practical and elegant manner to immediately elevate the splendour of an interior. Amongst other silverware or fine antiques or perhaps as a contrasting piece of interior decor in a contemporary setting, why not get creative and explore some modern uses for this basket? English hallmarks are present on the base of the bowl. *Please note: all images with other items are for display purposes only, this listing is for the title item only. • Antique Georgian Sterling Silver Basket/Bowl Rococo Shell - Robert Garrard 1804
    Located in London, GB
We are delighted to offer this magnificent Georgian solid silver basket made in London, 1804 by the acclaimed Royal gold/silversmith, Garrard (marks for Robert Garrard). Garrard (founded in 1735, surviving the test of time, still producing fine silverware and jewellery today), throughout history has been serving and producing exceptional pieces of silver and jewellery for the British Royal Family. The firm was appointed Crown Jeweller by Queen Victoria in 1843 which may come as no surprise upon examining the exceptional quality, craftsmanship and designs of their silverware/jewellery. It may come as no surprise that this George III basket presents some of the most desirable and impressive characteristics and embellishments. The basket is made in the manner of George II Rococo design and features ornate scrolled edges, rococo shells and intricate piercings. It is made from a wonderfully sturdy and thick gauge, resulting in the basket weighing just a touch over 1.4kg in spite of its relatively hollow and pierced design. This can be further appreciated when handling in person whereby the hefty weight is supported by the thick handle, presenting a reassuring feel of exceeding quality. The balance between asymmetric scrolls and the overall proportions of this basket is majestic and the intricate repeated piercings of crosses and anthemion motifs allow for light to shine through, further elevating its splendour on a table or display. Such baskets would have been originally owned and used by the upper echelons of society including the aristocracy and wealthy families acting as both a practical and symbolic dining accoutrament of prosperity. This basket has a central coat of arms hand engraved. We believe that even today, such baskets are still highly versatile and wonderful objects of decoration and practicality whether be it in an antique setting or a juxtaposing centrepiece in a modern interior. Owing to it generous size and elaborate design, it could be used to serve bread or cake in a party setting or perhaps hold some fruit on your dining table in the most opulent manner. Overall, an impressive and ornate example of fine Georgian silverware, ideal for immediately elevating the ambience of a setting and adding a magnificent silvery presence to your interior. A full set of English hallmarks is present on the base - the handle of the basket is unmarked. *Please note: all images with other items are for display purposes only, this listing is for the item mentioned in the title. SIZE Size (cm) L:34.5cm W:28.5cm H:22.5cm (to top of handle) Size (inches) L:13.5 W:11.22 H:8.85 (to top of handle) Weight: 1402 grams (45.07 Troy oz) CONDITION Good Condition - The basket is in good overall antique condition considering its age and type. There are some areas of old restoration with one pierced section having been repaired and some slight splits around the feet of the basket. Due to its ornate design, this is not very apparent or visible however we have mentioned it for accuracy. Areas with the most significant restoration have been shown in the last image. The central coat of arms engraving...

    By Sebastian Crespel II
    Located in London, GB
We are delighted to offer this fine and exquisite pair of early Victorian solid silver tea spoons made in London 1842 with the maker's mark of Sebastian Crespell. The pair features a highly ornate and desirable 'naturalistic' design with the entirety of the spoon-shaped as a leaf and branch. Intricate engravings on the leaf bowls and the realistic form of the stem/branch indicate a high level of craftsmanship and artistry by the silversmith. Upon close inspection, the asymmetric and naturally flowing design is further apparent and is a delightful touch. Not only are these spoons practical for a wide variety of uses from tea to desserts, but are a modest yet discerning addition to any collection or interior decor for a sophisticated and nature-inspired look. The pair is gilded with a yellowish/lemon hue that has been worn and patinated in a very attractive colour/tone. A full set of English hallmarks are present on the reverse side of the bowl.
