Wood Nutcracker French Folk Art from Les Deux Alpes, 1960s

About the Item

Sculptural wooden nutcracker. Folk Art piece from the French Alps. Dating the 1960s. The surface of the wood is carved with a gouge, giving it this raw patterned appearance. Engraved "Venosc" at the front, which is an ancient village in the French Alps. Venosc was one of the two municipalities that made up the ski resort of Les Deux Alpes. It was one of the first ski resorts created in France, in the 1930s, just after Chamonix-Mont-Blanc. It then experienced rapid development in the 1950s. The geometrically shaped nutcracker can be placed on any of its 5 sides, giving it a different appearance each time. A beautiful decorative piece that can be displayed either on a kitchen shelf or countertop. In perfect working condition !
