Royal Tichelaar Makkum Antique Delft Dutch Faience Hand-Painted Tiles

About the Item

Antique Dutch Delft polychrome tiles - set of 2. These are two attractive Dutch (Netherlands), Delft ceramic wall tiles, which we date to the late 19th century, circa 1870. Hand-made by the Royal Tickelaar of Makkum, the oldest pottery and tile company in the Netherlands. Dutch Delft faience Hand-painted and hand molded polychrome tiles. One with a fox with a duck in his mouth, the other one with a large porcelain footed basket with fruits in vibrant colors. Hand- crafted of Frisian clay and entirely hand-painted. Ten generations of Tichelaars, uninterrupted since the 17th century, have applied the original Majolica technique, never deviating from the old formula. Royal Tichelaar Makkum is a Dutch pottery company in Makkum. After initially producing bricks and later pottery and tiles, the company has focused on traditional decorative pottery since 1890. As the company in Makkum has always made ceramics, Royal Tichelaar Makkum is regarded as one of the oldest companies in the Netherlands. The Royal Tichelaar Makkum has always specialized in stoneware and earthernware, and started making porcelain from 1999. The first Dutch porcelain dates to 1759, with the advent of Weesp porcelain. Handcrafted in Makkum, Holland, Netherlands. The tiles are marked in the back with the crown and logo of the Royal Tichelaar Makkum company. Dimensions: 5 in. x 5 in. x 0.35.
