About the Item
A pair of antique Indian hand-painted figural brass head religious sculptures.
Hand-crafted in the Maharashtra or Karnataka region of India in the late 19th / early 20th century, depicting Gauri, exceptionally executed in brass with polychrome pigment decoration, hollow with loop / handle at back of each.
Gauri, also known as Parcati, is the Hindu goddess of power, energy, nourishment, harmony, love, beauty, devotion, and motherhood. A benevolent goddess, consort of Shiva or Varuna, connected with the rains, she is reputed to be the source of the world and the embodiment of motherhood

Condition:
Great condition with beautifully aged warm patina. Wear consistent with age, use and handling, including patinated brass, oxidation, tarnish, minor pitting, rubbing, and paint losses, all typical and age appropriate. Well made, structurally sound.
The small icon statue / folk art examples present very well, sure to add whimsical elegance, warmth, cultural interest, antique character and charm to any space!
