Various models of these original currency bearers were manufactured by the Chamba tribe. The bearing iron can have an oval, circular, or square shape. Suspended on this bearing, we have elongated iron pieces that resemble curled tobacco leaves, i.e. loose hanging change. This piece shows the monetary scale of the Chamba tribe; they could have been spent both singularly and all at once (Ballarini, The Perfect Form, 2009).

- 19th Century African Iron Currency Mfunte Mfumte Nigeria CameroonLocated in Point Richmond, CAThe price is for an individual currency and includes a stand. The custom stands can display the currencies horizontally with the rounded point facing to the left or right or mounted vertically. Please specify your preference. The aging of the iron has further added to the texture and attractiveness of the design. Colonial coinage replaced Africa's traditional iron currencies...Category
