"Tripod" Three Tubular Steel Legs Floor Lamp by Front Design for Fontana Arte

About the Item

"Tripod" is a floor lamp, designed by Front Design and manufactured by Fontana Arte, featuring three legs in painted tubular steel, adjustable spots with a dimmer pedal and a sphere in white frosted opal blown glass. Its lighting sources are 3 x 17W LED (3000K, CRI>80, Lumen 1750). Dimensions: D 21.5", W 21.5", H 68.1". Slender, elegant and extremely long legs give this floor lamp a sense of lightness, yet also of great stability. Like the ancient Greek tripod, a symbol of hospitality, the end of each support is fitted with a LED light source with different forms and functions: the longest leg has a sphere in white frosted glass that produces a diffused ambient light, while the other two have adjustable spotlights for a direct and concentrated light. The design of the structure is essential thanks to the cable organizing system, running inside the tubular legs. The lamp is provided with black frame and brass-coated fixtures, which lend the lamp a precious elegance. Sofia Lagerkvist and Anna Lindgren are the members of the Swedish Design Group Front. Their works are based on common discussions, explorations and experiments and they collaborate in all projects from initial ideas to the final product. Front’s design objects often communicate a story to the observer about the design process, about the material it's made of or about conventions within the design field. In their work they have assigned part of the making of design to animals, computers or machines. They try to achieve a constantly changing creative process, giving form to objects by explosions or to robotic furniture and to a range of furniture inspired by their fascination with magic.

  • Fontana Arte "Optunia" Floor Lamp Designed by Claesson Koivisto Rune
By Claesson Koivisto Rune, Fontana Arte
    Located in Brooklyn, NY
"Optunia" is a floor lamp, designed by Claesson Koivisto Rune and manufactured by Fontana Arte, featuring a structure in cast aluminium, available with paints in white, onyx or glossy black nickel-plated colors. Molded cast glass, frosted and painted from behind, working as a diffuser. Base in painted metal. Power source housed in the base for the wall and ceiling versions, in the breadboard for the hanging version or onto a peg in the table version. It's provided with a dimmer inserted on the electrical cord and lighting sources are two 11W LED (3000K, CRI>80, Lumen 1384 + 1384). "Optunia" is a collection of lighting elements available in four variants for tabletop (with or without stem), floor, wall and ceiling. Its functionality lies in the possibility of rotating the two discs that make up the nearly 360 degrees head, opening up an extraordinary number of lighting combinations. The lower disc rotates on one axis, while the upper disk simultaneously rotates on a second axis, perpendicular to the first. This double movement gives "Optunia" the advantages of both direct and indirect light emission, exploiting the surface of the wall or ceiling to produce a soft light. Complementing its functionality, the design of such lamp is reminiscent of a form found in nature: the two disks resemble the pads of the prickly pear called "Opuntia ficus-indica", from which the lamp takes its name. A collection of exceptional technical sophistication, whose form is further emphasized by its colors: opaque white, bold and clean, dark mirrored chrome, recalling the preciousness of metal, a darker shade resembling onyx and quartz color, shifting from dark brown to black.
