About the Item
Iconic scandinavian lamp, the starry sky is one of the master piece created by Paavo Tynell. All original and rare Starry Sky model 9068 produced by TAITO Oy and designed by Paavo Tynell in the 40's. This example is all original with it's original painting which is extremely rare for this model. The lamp is composed by a iron part with a brass grill diffuseur and a glass on top to covert the light. The lamp has never been touch so it has a string patina from the 50'sThe lamp is stamp by the editor TAITO which was the first Tynell editor during the 40's.

Paavo Tynell
Paavo Tynell, who was born in Helsinki, Finland in 1890, started his career as a tin- and blacksmith at the company Kory Oy. Simultaneously, he studied at the Helsinki University of Industrial Arts, from which he graduated as a master craftsman in 1913. In 1918, Tynell co-founded the metalwork and lighting company Oy Taito Ab. At first, the company focused mostly on interior and exterior metalwork, such as statues and railings. Later, during the 1930s, Taito also began producing lamps for the lighting sector. Both Alvar Aalto and Kaj Franck would design works for the company.
