About the Item
19th Century, Pair of French Gitl Bronze Appliques
This particular pair of appliques, in chiseled and gilded bronze, dates back to the first half of the nineteenth century. Made in France, it offers a characteristic model of the Empire style.
The central body, a semisphere decorated with a star, unites two crossed arrows, with the tip facing down and the feathered tail at the top. From the center depart two curved arms that originate with curls and phytomorphic elements. They end with two busts of woman that, like caryatids, hold on the head the bobbes with ornate leaves.
Electrified and working (to be revised), they have two semi-circular lampshades in shades with bronze gold.
The wall sconces are very decorative and of particular effect, with a curious and unusual design. The gold of bronze brings preciousness and brightness and makes them suitable for any environment, exposed individually or in pairs, alongside modern or antique furniture.
