1962 A Clockwork Orange

About the Item

An uncommon, first edition copy of Anthony Burgess' celebrated novel, his jeu d'espirit, 'A Clockwork Orange'. A first edition, first issue of this canonical novel. A novel known for its use of 'Nadsat' slang, and many time a contentious read, having been censored in some schools and libraries in the United States. Hailed as an dystopian, sci-fi, satirical, black comedy; this novel explores many genres. The teenage protagonist Alex narrates his violent exploits and experiences. Time Magazine regarded this work as on the list of 100 best English-language novels written since 1923. Burgess' novel was later adapted into a dystopian crime film by Stanley Kubrick. With the original first issue dustwrapper, with the extended flaps. This dustwrapper is neatly price-clipped and has been restored to the head and tail. A lovely, very scarce example of this important literary novel. In the publisher's original cloth binding. With price-clipped dustwrapper. Externally, very smart with just a few light marks to the tail of spine. Dustwrapper is very smart and has been restored to the head and tail of spine, resulting in minor bleed-through to the external. A few light marks to the wraps. Front endpaper has been removed.
