Irving Penn Regards the Work of Issey Miyake - 1st Edition, Johnathan Cape, 1999

About the Item

First Edition, published by Jonathan Cape, London 1999. Collecting photographs taken between 1975-1998, this bright and still forward-thinking fashion book shows how Irving Penn captured the work of Issey Miyake, and explores the artistic relationship between Penn, one of the most prominent photographers of the 20th century and Miyake, the iconic fashion designer. Given absolute artistic license to interpret and photograph Miyake's designs in surprising ways, Penn achieved this with inventive and unexpected photographs, still framed against his signature pure white backdrops. An invaluable representation of an important relationship between both artists, this book unites their formidable talents and a relationship that Miyake described as a "silent understanding". Hardback in publisher's original dust jacket, text in English, unpaginated, copiously illustrated in colour throughout.
