Julian Schnabel by Julien Schnabel (Book)

About the Item

Julian Schnabel gained fame in the 1980s as a leading representative of American Neo-Expressionism. He combined representational painting with unusual materials, which he nailed, glued or screwed onto his paintings. canvases covered with smashed porcelain dishes, truck tarpaulins or cowhides as a painting surface became his trademark. With the enormous attention paid to his painting, a cult of stardom emerged, the likes of which had no equal even in Warhol's time. Schnabel became the most expensive painter of his generation. His work has been exhibited all over the world. Collectors and gallery owners such as Leo Castelli and Charles Saatchi literally scrambled for his paintings. Today, his work hangs in the permanent collections of the Museum of Art in New York, the Metropolitan Museum, the Centre Pompidou and all the major museums in the world. In the 90s, Schnabel discovered the medium of film as another creative field of activity. In 1996 he made the highly acclaimed feature film Basquit about his fellow New York painter who died at an early age. his second film, Before Night Falls, won the Grand Jury Prize at the 2000 Venice Film Festival. This monograph, designed by the artist himself, presents the artistic all-rounder Julian Schnabel in all his facets. It presents parts of his work that have never been shown publicly before, as well as photographs from his award-winning films. The first monograph on one of the most influential artists of recent decades. I don't even know if I should say that's the work about Julian Schnabel or that's the only thing (which it's not). But I think it's so hard to find a compendium of his works. Even on the Internet, the treasure trove for EVERYTHING, there is hardly a more detailed homepage about the artist, let alone your own homepage. This American artist was one of the most important of the early 80s in New York. He was everywhere. And this book finally offers an excellent overview of his work. It is monumental - just like his works. 369 pages. 3460 grams.
